Alexis Johnson
Alexis Johnson is a self-taught artist and illustrator based in St. Paul, Minnesota. She primarily works with ink and digital media, and occasionally with pastels and watercolors. She is always interested in exploring and combining different media and trying new ideas. Alexis has minimal formal art training, but she enjoys life-drawing and other exercises to expand upon her own self-taught art skills
Alexis enjoys exploring perspective, size comparisons, and the juxtaposition of modern figures in natural spaces. She recontextualizes the subject by her surroundings, illustrating the fantastical as mundane, in hopes of having the viewer re-evaluate the mundane in her own life. She has a particular fondness for giants in modern clothing, and how seeing someone the viewer might pass on the street taking up an entire landscape forces the viewer to examine her assumptions about the lives of people around her. While giants are always a reliable source of inspiration for her, Alexis is always trying new things and exploring new concepts. As of late, she has been incorporating specific objects from nature, such as skulls and flowers, into her work, as well as experimenting with the level of detail and how the viewer reacts to more lifelike or more abstract pieces. Alexis is most inspired by nature, streetwear, and the full and complete lives of women.
Alexis is currently looking for work, and is open to commissions, freelance, and fulltime employment. You can see more of her work on twitter, @lexijohnsonartart, and get in contact with her at alexisjohnsonart@gmail.com
